Dehydrated Edible Termite Alates (Winged Reproductives) – 10g (Macrotermes gilvus sp.)

The sole purpose of termite alates is to establish new colonies and become the future kings and queens.

At the onset of Thailand’s monsoon season, termite colonies produce future kings and queens that embark on pre-nuptial flights, synchronised with other colonies of the same species. This event occurs in most mature colonies within a given area.

These flying termites are nourished with the finest food the nest offers and carefully tended until their departure. Packed with fat reserves to last several months, they sustain themselves until the first eggs hatch into workers. These workers then begin foraging and, in fungus-building species such as Macrotermitinae, construct the first fungal combs.

Termite alates are also a prized food source—rich in nutrients and boasting a delicious, nutty flavour. They can be enjoyed on their own as a snack, typically seasoned with soy sauce, chilli, and pepper, or with lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf. They also complement a variety of savoury dishes.

Our termite alates are sourced from carefully selected insect foragers and processed at our HACCP-certified facility. They are cleaned, heat-treated at over 121°C, dehydrated at 70°C, and packed in convenient foil pouches, ready for shipment. All products undergo random laboratory testing to ensure compliance with international health and safety standards.
